Meet the 2012 Miss Zimbabwe contestants

MISS Bulawayo Bongani Dhlakama, 23, was on Saturday night crowned Miss Zimbabwe 2012 at the national pageant held at the Harare International Conference Centre.

The Midlands State University Development Studies student impressed a judging panel which included the Big Brother Africa star Munyaradzi Chidzonga.

Dhlakama’s first princess was 19-year-old musician and Miss Mashonaland West first runner-up Petinah Nhamburo. Miss Zimbabwe USA winner Ruvimbo Katiyo was second princess.

The outgoing Miss Zimbabwe, Malaika Mushandu, was on hand to crown the new queen.

Dhlakama, a devout Christian, found herself on the receiving end of snide comments by her rivals after winning the Bulawayo crown in December last year – because of her faith.

One losing contestant told the Bulawayo Sunday News: “She is too much of church mouse to be Miss Bulawayo.”

Dhlakama will represent Zimbabwe at the Miss World 2012 pageant to be held in Ordos, China, this August.
