THE 2012 edition of the Mbada Diamonds Cup, with an increased purse, was launched in Harare on Friday night with defending champions Dynamos and giants Highlanders kept apart.

This year, the winners will take home $100,000 – up from $75,000 – in addition to a $150,000 subsidy for taking part in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2013.

Speaking at the draw, Mbada corporate services executive George Manyaya said the losing teams in the first round would take him $10,000 each, which will double for the teams dropping out in the last eight with the semi-final losers banking $30,000 each.

The losing finalists will pick up $60,000.

“Each player will get $100 appearance while seven members of the technical team will get $150 each for every match,” Manyaya said.

“The player of the tournament will take home $1,500, the goalkeeper of the tournament $1,000, top goalscorer $1,000, the scorer of the last goal of the tournament $500 and the man of the match $500 for every game.”

The Mbada Diamonds Cup – open to all the Premier League’s 16 teams – is the country’s richest knock-out tournament.
