ZIMBABWE captain Tapuwa Kapini has announced plans to retire from international football – on his Facebook.
The AmaZulu shot stopper – sidelined by an ankle injury for several months – hinted he may have played his last match for Zimbabwe.
"I think it's high time I left it for others to start their journey in the national team now," Kapini said, without explaining further.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper earned his first senior cap in 2001. He was part of the Zimbabwe team that took part in the 2004 and 2006 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
A low point in his career would have been missing Zimbabwe's final qualifier for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations against Angola early this month.
Kapini was injured in the first leg as Zimbabwe won 3-1 at Rufaro. But the Warriors capitulated 2-0 in the return leg to crash out.
The eccentric goalkeeper recently voiced concern over lengthy bans imposed by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) on players linked to the Asiagate match-fixing scandal.
Kapini described the bans as "harsh" and "unfair" while calling for pardons.
