A LEADING online fine diamond jeweller has slapped an immediate ban on Zimbabwe’s diamonds from Marange, citing human rights violations.

“DiamondGeezer.com board of directors has passed a resolution banning the trade or use of any Marange diamonds,” the UK-registered company said in a statement.

The company cited a report by Partnership Africa Canada (PAC) into claims of a violent military crackdown on illegal miners for its action, which comes just a month after the international diamond trade watchdog, the Kimberley Process, rejected pressure to blacklist Zimbabwe's diamonds.

DiamondGeezer.com said it will effect procedures to ensure that its 'NO BLOOD DIAMONDS HERE' policy is strictly maintained.

RapNet Diamond Trading Network has already banned its members from dealing in gems from Zimbabwe’s Marange fields, claiming “severe” human rights violations in the area, which the Zimbabwe government denies.
