POLICE in England say the body of a Zimbabwean man who went missing on New Year’s Eve has been found floating in a river.

Bernard Tandi, 38, of Portobello Way in Warwick, was reported missing by his family on January 3 after they failed to locate him and he did not turn up at his workplace.

Now Warwickshire Police say they have positively identified a body pulled from River Avon between Warwick and Barford on Monday as that of Tandi, whose sister and niece also live in England.

Police are investigating the circumstances around his death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

Earlier this month, Warwickshire Police expanded their search for Tandi across the UK by making appeals to other police forces.

Detective Superintendent Carl Buckley, who was leading the search, said: "There has been one reported sighting of Tandi since he went missing. This was by someone who knows Bernard and reported seeing him at 0830 hours on 2 January 2013 in Emscote Road, Warwick, walking towards Warwick.

"This is encouraging, but we are keen to hear of further sightings and now believe Bernard may have travelled to Coventry or elsewhere in the country which is why we are launching a nationwide appeal."
