A TEACHER at a private college in Bulawayo has appeared in court accused of writing an Ordinary Level examination on behalf of a student he claims is a relative.
Phindani Ncube 44, who was employed by the Bulawayo Business Environment Services College (BES) pleaded guilty when he appeared in court charged with flouting Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) regulations.
The court heard that Ncube was at work on the 3rd of December 2009 when students were sitting an Ordinary Level Integrated Science paper.
He is said to have gone to a room where the examination was in progress and asked for a question paper from one of the invigilators.
He then left the room with the question paper and proceeded to write the examination on behalf of one of the candidates who was named as Sehlile Ngwenya.
Ngwenya was present at the college and also sitting the same examination.
The court was told that, after an hour, Ncube returned to the examination room and proceeded to place his scripts with those of the candidates before walking out.
However the student he was writing for also submitted her own scripts and both were sent to Zimsec for marking.
The scam was discovered after markers advised the examinations body that they had received two scripts with the same candidate number but different hand-writings.
A report was made to the police leading to Ncube’s arrest
He pleaded guilty and told the court that he was just doing the candidate a favour since the two were related.
Ncube has since been sent for community service assessment and will be sentenced on Monday, March 22 2010.
