THERE is a one in two chance that Air Zimbabwe will be on time – but there are worse performing major airlines, it has been revealed.

Figures compiled by Gatwick Airport show that Zimbabwe’s national carrier was 50 percent on time last month -- within 15 minutes of its advertised schedule.

But Air Zimbabwe, which operates two long haul flights every Sunday and Thursday, is not as bad as easyJet – Gatwick’s biggest airline.

In June, only 48 percent of easyJet flights were on time – an alarming slip compared to British Airways’ 85.7 percent.

Gatwick said in January, 61.8pc of its international flights were on time. In February the figure was 60.1pc, in March 68.5pc, in April 74.2pc, in May 54.4pc and in June 48pc.

Air Zimbabwe flies twice a week on Sunday and Wednesday to London from Harare, and has two flights to Harare from London on Thursday and Sunday.

The airline, currently facing financial problems, uses two old Boeing 767s.
