A BULAWAYO man lashed out at his wife and chased her down a street at 3AM while armed with a kitchen knife after seeing her making love to another man in a DREAM, a court heard.
Ndumiso Dube, 31, of Cowdray Park, appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate last Friday charged with assaulting his wife, Siphathisiwe Hlatshwayo, on the morning of July 17.
Prosecuting, Fiona Denhere-Ncube told Western Commonage Court magistrate Shepherd Munjanja that the security guard and his wife were asleep when he dreamt his wife bedding another man.
“When he woke up from his dream, he told her that he had just dreamt about her making love to another man. He demanded an explanation, and when she failed to do so, he went on to punch her all over the body,” the prosecutor said.
The court heard Hlatshwayo raced out of the house screaming and with Dube – now armed with a kitchen knife – in hot pursuit.
Her screams alerted neighbours who came to her rescue. Hlatshwayo had sustained facially injuries.
She told the court Dube constantly abused her.
Launching his own defence, Dube – who denies the charges -- claimed that he actually caught his wife in bed with another man after returning from his night watch duties as a security guard.
“I went home after work during the night and caught her red-handed cheating on me with another man. That’s how the problem started,’’ he said.
The magistrate ordered the couple to live apart and remanded Dube out of custody to August 2 for the continuation of the trial.
