Mwonzora, Komichi blast Kasukuwere, say minister a failure and 'wild' struggling law student

THE MDC-T Monday lashed out at Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere for claiming that typhoid in Harare was caused by vendors operating at the party’s Harvest House HQ along Nelson Mandela Avenue.

Kasukuwere told journalists during a press conference last week that vendors at Harvest House had resisted removal, resulting in a typhoid outbreak which has killed two people in the Mbare high density suburb.

But MDC-T Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora dismissed the minister’s accusations as “wild”.

“Those are wild accusations. There has never been a single case of typhoid recorded at Harvest House. These people are doing legitimate trading. We have no intention of removing them from this place,” said Mwonzora.

“Kasukuwere must concentrate on making sure his ministry is well run. It is because of his failure to run the local government ministry that people are experiencing problems of typhoid in Harare.”

“His failure to run the ministry has resulted in the outbreak of typhoid in Harare. The City of Harare employees are appointed by government and these have failed to deliver.”

Mwonzora described Kasukuwere as a man of very limited intellect something that he said was expected from a person of his nature.

“It is a type of annoying arrogance that he is displaying. Actually, this has become a hallmark of this government, especially Kasukuwere who is struggling to get his law degree that he is doing very poorly.

“Instead of blaming the MDC-T, this government must concentrate on providing services to the people to avoid problems,” Mwonzora said.

Morgan Komichi, the MDC-T Vice Chairman, shared the same sentiments.

“Kasukuwere thinks typhoid has been caused by vendors at MDC’s Harvest House, what about unemployment, hunger, poverty that have affected the whole nation?

“People all over Zimbabwe are struggling because of the economy that was destroyed by Mugabe and his allies.

“They destroyed this economy and people are now desperate and selling their wares along street pavements to survive, these are not vendors at all here (Harvest House) compared to those along Mbare and other streets like Kaguvi and Mbuya Nehanda,” Komichi told New Zimbabwe.

“Typhoid is not a food but a water-borne disease. Kasukuwere is a failure and meddles in council operations to induce and benefit from corruption at some of the councils. He runs the ministry of Local Government the Zanu PF way. He is at fault and should not be involved in council matters.

“This leader has no people at heart. Kasukuwere is known for having led thugs who killed so many innocent lives in rural and urban areas around the country.

“Poor policies and poor service delivery is also violence and he must not blame MDC-T for the suffering that many are going through. We are not surprised about his utterances,” Komichi said.

Kasukuwere is studying law at the University of Zimbabwe.
