THE Joice Mujuru led Zimbabwe People First party says it will use the Bikita West by-election to test the feasibility of a planned grant coalition against Zanu PF in the next year’s nation-wide polls.

Opposition political parties are in the process of scouting for a single Presidential candidate who take on President Robert Mugabe who has been endorsed by his Zanu PF party to seek another five-year term in office.

The parties are however, said to be in a quandary over whom to select to lead the coalition between Mujuru and the MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

In an interview with NewZimbabwe.com in Harare Monday, ZimPF spokesperson Jealousy Mawarire said the 21 January Bikita by-election in which his party is contesting for the first time since its formation is going to prove the possibility of uniting and conquering Mugabe next year.

Mawarire said they have extended invitations to “all democratic forces” including the 17 members of the National Electoral Reforms Agenda (NERA) to give them moral support during the remaining days of the campaigning.

“Everyone is welcome to our campaign rallies in Bikita whose election we are going use to test the feasibility of the much talked about coalition in 2018,” said Mawarire.

“In politics even a person or political party who has 15 people is important because those numbers make a difference on the results and that is the reason why we are saying everyone is welcome to give us their moral support,” Mawarire said.

Mujuru’s party has fielded 23-year-old Kudakwashe Gopo for the upcoming vote after the constituency fell vacant following the imprisonment of Munyaradzi Kereke who was convicted for raping a niece.

Other candidates vying for the same seat include Madock Chivasa of the National Constitutional Assembly party, Zanu PF’s Beauty Chibaya, Tanyaradzwa Makumbo of the Progressive Democrats of Zimbabwe and two independent candidates, Heya Shoko and Innocent Muzvimbiri.
