MDCs, PDP say Grace's rallies to destroy Zanu PF

THE local opposition has trashed plans by Grace Mugabe to resume her fresh countrywide rallies but say they welcome what they see as yet another prospect of a Zanu PF disintegration fuelled by the First Lady.

“It will be a God’s gift to the toiling and downtrodden masses of Zimbabwe if Grace Mugabe’s rallies act as a catalyst in the inevitable implosion of the Zanu PF regime,” MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu told NewZimbabwe.com on Monday.

Since President Robert Mugabe’s wife stormed the mainstream politics in 2014, later becoming Zanu PF women’s league secretary during the same year, the ruling party has witnessed a dramatic membership carnage.

Then Vice President, Joice Mujuru, and several bigwigs were purged for allegedly sponsoring her subtle bid to succeed President Mugabe.

Grace came short of labelling Mujuru a whore for allegedly strutting on a mini skirt and also harangued one time Mugabe apologist Ray Kaukonde in front of television cameras during one of her countrywide rallies.

When it all seemed the storm was over, it turned out Grace was all out to exterminate all perceived threats against her husband’s continued cling to power, this time turning on Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s camp.

President Mugabe’s garrulous wife went for broke, this time rubbishing war veterans, once a brutal defence line to President Mugabe’s rule.

For the first time since war veterans became a Zanu PF appendage, the country’s liberators seen as part of Mnangagwa's camp were brutalised by police as they tried to caucus at a Harare venue a year ago in the wake of Grace’s reign of terror.

War veterans chair Chris Mutsvangwa and a handful of his lieutenants have also fallen by the wayside, thanks to Grace.

Some Zanu PF youth leaders were also summarily dismissed for remonstrating against Grace's divisive brand of politics, something that could have led to her decision to indefinitely suspend the rallies.

Fast forward to 2017, Grace has returned with a new set of rallies.

“We would be lying if we say that we are not very pleased to see Zanu PF crush and burn,” said Gutu.

Gutu blasted “spend thrift” Grace adding that despite adding fuel to Zanu PF’s fall her rallies were an unnecessary drain to the fiscus as cabinet ministers will follow her to her rallies using government resources.

Kurauone Chihwayi, spokesperson of the Welshman Ncube led MDC, said Grace’s return will “certainly lubricate confusion in Zanu PF”.

“Whatever ritual or trick the Zanu PF queen intends to conduct will never resuscitate Zanu PF. A torrid time is lying ahead for Robert Mugabe and his team.

“The Grace Mugabe crusade will put the final nail on the Zanu PF coffin and the opposition parties will be left with simple task of burying it,” Chihwayi said.

Jacob Mafume, spokesperson of the Tendai Biti led PDP said his party was happy to see Grace was returning “with her vitriol reckless language”.

“She has a tongue of a market woman together with her gestures,” Mafume said.

“We welcome any opportunity that Grace has to show that she can unsettle Zanu PF.

“The good thing is that she also attacks the security sector and civil servants.

“Those are the ones that have been destroying the country.

“They need to be defeated and to be defeated by the wife of a President will crown their legacy.”
