A 24-YEAR-OLD man from Chivi assaulted his 12-year-old brother to death and tried to conceal the murder by dumping the body in a church toilet, Masvingo police confirmed.

Acting Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the tragedy and said police have since arrested Ezekiel Mabhiza who is assisting them with investigations.

The now deceased Isreal Mabhiza was a grade six pupil at Sukwe primary school in Chivi.

Asst Inspector Dhewa said Ezekiel used a hoe to kill his brother and tried to bury the body in a riverbed but later changed his mind.

Dhewa said Ezekiel then carried the body some 5km to Mandamabwe Shopping Centre where he tried to dump the body in a ZAOGA church toilet but the hole was not big enough forcing him to abandon it there.

A passer-by saw him dragging his brother’s lifeless body into the toilet and alerted other villagers who apprehended and took him to the police.

Assistant Inspector Dhewa said when Ezekiel was arrested he claimed to be possessed by demons which had instructed him to kill his brother so that he could marry a wife.

He said at the scene of the murder, police recovered fine ground tobacco (bute) and a blanket which he claimed he used to make rituals after the murder.
