THE Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZLWVA) chairperson Chris Mutsvangwa said former liberation fighters are the “soul” and “bone” of the ruling party.

Mutsvangwa said the accusation that they were “mooting” a coalition with MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai or would bring in businessman Strive Masiyiwa were the works of their enemies within Zanu PF mainly members of the Generation 40 faction.

He said G40 members were planting false stories in newspapers because they were haunted by their actions of destroying Zanu PF from within.

“But because they kicked us out they are haunted. This is what haunts the G40; that’s why they will seize any opportunity to go to the press and claim that now we are with that one or that one,” said the former War Vets minister during a press conference last week.

He added, “But something interesting is happening in Zanu PF. The people have become conscious of who their enemy is which the G40 is.”

On the planned ZNLWVA meeting, Mutsvangwa said as they were an autonomous association and they hold their meetings according to the Constitution of Zimbabwe adopted in 2013.

Mutswangwa was fired from Zanu PF and government last year after he attacked Grace Mugabe and was accused of undermining president Robert Mugabe’s authority. The First Lady is said to be the leader of the G40 which also allegedly includes ministers Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kasukuwere and Patrick Zhuwao.
