sombre atmosphere engulfed Glen Forest Cemetery Friday as friends and relatives bade farewell to Gillian Zvomuya, 35, also known as Nyasha Kahari.

She was murdered by her husband in the United Kingdom on 30 January 2017.

Gillian, whose body arrived in Zimbabwe three days ago, is believed to have been stabbed to death by husband Nobert Chikerema who is in police custody charged with murder.

Speaking at her burial in Harare Friday, Gillian’s father said, as parents, they had played their part in the upbringing of their daughter whom they dearly loved.

“When a daughter has been married, it is now the duty of those who will stay with her to know what kind of a person one is.

“I want to thank the mother (Mrs Zvomuya) for the good lessons that she imparted to her daughter,” said a distraught Sekuru Zvomuya.

He also took time to thank members of the Zimbabwe Assemblies of God (ZAOGA), (Birmingham chapter) for giving his daughter a befitting send-off.

“I want to thank the ZAOGA church leadership for the befitting send-off they gave to my daughter. The praises were amazing especially during the last service in Birmingham.”

A sister who declined to be named said “Gillian was hardworking and caring and would be greatly missed by both her family and friends.”

Reverend Nyambo of Forward in Faith, Zaoga-Birmingham described Gillian as a God-loving person.

“I first came to know Gillian Chikerema Zvomuya in 2014 when I went to stay in Birmingham,” he explained.

“I became her pastor in 2016 and I knew her as a woman who was God-loving and would fellowship with young woman of her age to do good works in the house of God.

“That is made me come all the way from the United Kingdom to pay my last respect; she was a good woman.”

Gillian was found murdered inside a car outside a supermarket in the UK city of Birmingham. Her husband Norbert Chikerema, 42, was subsequently arrested in connection with the murder.

Chikerema has since appeared in a Birmingham court but denies the murder charges.

Gillian is survived by four children Panashe, 17, Hailey, 11, Ryan, 7, and Chloe, 5.
