MUTARE: AN irate woman who texted offensive messages to her ex-husband labeling him a Satanist was last week slapped with an $80 fine by a Mutare magistrates’ court.
Catherine Muchena, 39, pleaded guilty to sending the hateful messages to her ex-husband after the two had a heated argument over the welfare of their children.
For the offence, Muchena was slapped with a 15-day imprisonment with an alternative to pay $80 fine by magistrate Innocent Bepura.
Asked why she committed the offence, Muchena told court she was frustrated by her ex-husband’s unwillingness to cooperate when called to discuss the estranged couple’s children.
“Your Worship, I called him to discuss the welfare of our children but he was not picking his phone. I was annoyed and then insulted him via text messages. Please forgive me it was not my intention but I was frustrated,” she said.
Public prosecutor Fletcher Karombe told court that Muchena phoned her ex-husband intending to discuss the matter.
However, Muchena’s husband ignored the calls and this incensed her.
Muchena responded with a text message insulting the father of her children labeling him a heartless Satanist
Part of the text read, “Why would a Satanist like you put a Holly spirit status. Holly spirit does not stay in filthy places. When did you start to know God? Please stop sending your evil spirits to me”.
Muchena reportedly sent such text messages for several days prompting her ex-husband to file a report with local police leading to her arrest.
