A ZIMBABWEAN woman stole meat and perfume to please her controlling partner, a British court heard.

Michelle McDonnell, of Battleton Road, Evesham, stole £99 of perfume from Boots in Worcester and was arrested but on her release she went into Marks & Spencer and stole £96.25 worth of meat.

Matt Dodson, prosecuting, said on both occasions on Tuesday, October 19, she was spotted by security guards.

McDonnell, 31, admitted two counts of theft when she appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

Mark Turnbull, defending, said she was in a controlling relationship and stole to please her partner.

“The fact is she came to this country from Zimbabwe and has since stayed, but she has never been able to secure a National Insurance number,” said Tunbull.

“She has three children and lives with her partner, who is British. He has a controlling influence – she doesn’t go to steal for him, she does it as a way to please him.”

Sentencing was deferred until Friday, January 14. During that time McDonnell must stay out of trouble or face custody. - Evesham Journal
