A 37 YEAR OLD cop killer who was released from prison on presidential amnesty early this year committed suicide after being ditched by his long-time girlfriend.

Blessing Chimbirai was convicted of murder in 2014 after he stabbed a police officer to death as he resisted arrest.

Chimbirai was released from prison through a presidential pardon early this year.

Acting Masvingo police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, said Chimbirai drank rat poison after being ditched by his girlfriend Priscilla Chiore from Rhunare village under chief Marozwa in Bikita.

He died upon admission at Silveria Mission hospital.

“Chimbirai went to see his girlfriend Chiore and there was a misunderstanding after the girlfriend indicated that she was no longer able to continue with the relationship. The deceased then took rat poison from his pocket and swallowed it in front of his girlfriend and she had to rush him to Silveria hospital where he died upon admission,” Dhewa said.

Dhewa urged people to value life and to seek counselling from community elders whenever a misunderstanding arose to avoid unnecessary loss of life.
