TWO government departments are in the middle of a bruising battle to control the Victoria Falls.
Shocked tourists were caught up in the fight last Friday when officials from the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe stormed the Victoria Falls Rainforest entrance, pulled down flags and banners of the National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority before hoisting their own.
National Parks and Wildlife have been in charge of the Victoria Falls Rainforest since 1937.
National Museums boss Kundishora Chipunza, arrived at the Victoria Falls entrance with a Detective Inspector Siziba, said to be the officer in charge of CID in Victoria Falls, and two other uniformed officers.
He told reporters: “All we are saying is that this is a heritage site which falls under us, Museums, but all we want is to co-own it with Parks.”
The crisis at the Victoria Falls site is now set to suck-in ministers.
Late on Sunday, Museums appeared to be still in control at the site as their flag flew at the Victoria Falls entrance where the Parks’ emblem was until last Friday.
