PROMINENT lawyer and aspiring MP for Mt Pleasant constituency Fadzayi Mahere said simply because her father worked in the Mugabe-led government, it doesn’t mean his family members are Zanu PF.

Mahere also said come 2018 she will definitely not vote for nor endorse President Robert Mugabe or any presidential candidate from the ruling party but, her vote will go to the agreed opposition coalition candidate.

The #thisflag member said people who said she is Zanu PF or a member of the CIO simply because her father worked as a senior civil servant in Mugabe’s government held a “regrettable” view.

“Check my record, I have spoken extensively and consistently against Zanu PF and we need to be very true to that and it’s on record and calling me a CIO spy is lazy thinking,” said Fadzayi in an interview.

“And the fact that we are running against a Zanu PF MP, speaks volumes as the seat doesn’t belong to the opposition.”

Fadzayi is the daughter of Stephen Mahere who served secretary for Education, Sports, Arts and Culture between 2009 and 2012 before he retired in 2013.

“The day I told my Dad and Mum that I was running for the Mt Pleasant constituency and like any parents, they said what the hell are you doing, it’s dangerous,” she said.

“Wadii kungoita zve law zvawange uchiita, (why not concentrate on your law profession); parents do not want you to be involved in this, politics is dirty.”

Fadzayi added, “My father is not a politician and has never run for elected office.”

“We need to be honest with ourselves and I think those comments are regrettable and not factually accurate. I am my own woman”.

She also said her parents are now in retirement and she is the one who has the best interest in her future.

“So, I think let’s not be lazy in our analyses as Zimbabweans, let’s not call what we don’t understand, or what’s new or interesting, CIO, that’s very lazy.”

Fadzayi said she would be happy to hear someone analysing her election constituency manifesto and tell her that it doesn’t make sense.

“Or say Fadzi I disagree with you, but don’t bring my father into it because I am my own woman,” she said.

On who was her preferred presidential candidate since she is running as an independent Fadzayi said she will definitely vote for the opposition.

“I will definitely support unity and that we should all rally behind one coalition candidate agreed upon.”
