A CYCLIST died after a head-on BICYCLE COLLISION, Matabeleland South police said.

Sabelo Hlongwane, 64, died on the spot in the freak accident last Friday night.

Police believe poor visibility led to Hlongwane clattering into another cyclist just after 7PM on a small gravel track between Gwatemba and Mtshingwe in Filabusi.

Johane Zulu, who was cycling to Filabusi town centre, escaped unhurt and called emergency services.

Police arrived to find Hlongwane dead, apparently after taking a heavy tumble and landing on his head.

Matabeleland South police spokesman Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe said: “Hlongwane’s body was taken to Filabusi Hospital where a post-mortem will determine the cause of death.

“This would appear to be a tragic accident, but the police investigation will remain open until the post-mortem results are in.”
