THE MDC condemned prosecutors on Monday after they challenged the granting of bail to its Nyanga North MP Douglas Mwonzora.
Mwonzora was arrested on February 15 along with 24 other MDC activists on political violence charges.
All 25 were granted US$50 bail each by a Nyanga magistrate on Monday.
But the state invoked a controversial law which allows for suspects to be detained for up to seven more days while prosecutors file their opposition to the granting of bail.
In a statement, the MDC said: “As a party of excellence, we are against any form of violence whether by its members or any other political party.
“However, what we find strange is that it is only members who are being arrested when it is very clear that it is Zanu PF with a partisan police force that are perpetrating political violence.”
The MDC said a second MP, Roger Tazviona of Zhombe, was also being held in Kwekwe despite bail being granted.
Mwonzora addressed a constituency meeting last week which ended in violent clashes between MDC and Zanu PF supporters.
The MDC said most of the 25 detained activists were arrested at Nyamaropa Police Station while trying to lodge complaints following the clashes.
