A MAN sliced his girlfriend with a machete until she fell unconscious, then begged her to CUT OFF his penis when she reawakened, a court heard.

Borendo Mavhunga, 52, flew into a rage when his girlfriend asked him for bus fare to attend a memorial service in Mhondoro.

On Monday, he pleaded guilty to attempted murder before Harare magistrate Morgan Nemadire. He will be sentenced on Tuesday.

Mavhura, of Epworth, claimed he was possessed by “evil spirits” when he almost killed his girlfriend on February 23 this year.

Prosecuting, Michael Reza told the court how Mavhura blew his top after his girlfriend asked for money to attend a memorial service at her rural home.

After the couple went to bed following a furious row, the girlfriend woke up just before midnight to find Mavhura standing bedside with a machete in his hand.

Mavhura struck his girlfriend on the head and hands at least seven times until she passed out.

But instead of calling for help, prosecutors say Mavhura began knocking back an illicit, cheap brew called Zed until she regained consciousness.

“He handed over the machete, demanding that she use the weapon to cut off his private parts,” prosecutor, Reza, told the court.

The girlfriend refused to carry out his request and called for help. She was rushed to Chitungwiza Hospital where she made full recovery.
