A WOMAN bit off her neighbour’s lower lip in a dispute over queue jumping at a borehole, a court heard.

Sikhanyisiwe Ncube, 18, denied assault as she appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Mildred Matuvi on Thursday.

Prosecuting, Vengai Masvaya told the court that Sikhanyisiwe was queuing for water at a borehole in Zvishavane’s Kandodo high density suburb just after 9AM on May 30 when she placed her bucket in front of that of her neighbour, Ellen Ncube, 20.

The two women were soon engaged in a fist fight. Sikhanyisiwe, it is alleged, completely bit off Ellen’s lower lip.

Bleeding profusely, Ellen was rushed to Zvishavane District Hospital where she received treatment.

Sikhanyisiwe denies assault. She told the magistrate she “had to do that to defeat the person I was fighting”.

She was remanded out of custody to June 13 on US$50 bail.
