A “POSSESSED” man who slashed his girlfriend SEVEN times with a machete after she asked him for BUS FARE has been jailed for 12 years.

Crazed Borendo Mavhura, 52, told his trial that he was “possessed” by evil spirits, but a magistrate called his rampage “mindless”.

The court heard Mavhura’s girlfriend “passed out” during the attack on the night of February 23 in Epworth, and he helped himself to a beer while waiting for her to regain consciousness.

As she came back to life, Mavhura handed her the machete and asked her to slice off his penis. She called for help.

“There was no slightest justification for the attack,” magistrate Morgan Nemadire told Mavhura during sentencing on Wednesday. “The attack was cowardly, brutal, mindless and vicious.”

The court heard Mavhura flew into a rage when his girlfriend asked for money to visit her rural home.

The row went on until the couple retired for bed, but she woke up during the night to find Mavhura standing over the bed with a machete in his hand.

He struck her three times on the head and three times on her hands.

Doctors said it was a miracle she lived.

Mavhura was convicted of attempted murder last week.
