POLICE have arrested a Zanu PF MP over the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl – but detectives fear there may be as many as 11 victims.

Magunje MP Franco Ndambakuwa was detained in Karoi on Thursday after the alleged victim and her mother walked into a police station.

The attack reportedly happened in December last year.

"I can confirm that the MP has been arrested on allegations of raping a 15-year-old girl. That is all I can say at the moment as we are still carrying out investigations," chief police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Wayne Bvudzijena told the Herald on Saturday.

The Herald reports that the MP was accused of impregnating a 17-year-old girl last year. She later committed suicide.

Police are reportedly looking into 10 other alleged cases of sexual abuse involving the MP.

The MP is due before Karoi magistrates on Monday for an initial remand.
