A ZIMBABWEAN man has been charged over an alleged sexual assault on a 96-year-old granny in a British care home.

Timothy Utedzi, 34, was arrested last Thursday and appeared at the Aylesbury Magistrates Court on Saturday.

A spokeswoman from the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Mr Utedzi was charged with assault on a female by penetration with part of the body or a thing.

“He was remanded in custody to appear at Aylesbury Crown Court on July 15.”

The Bucks Herald newspaper, citing sources, said Utedzi, of Elm Farm Road in Aylesbury, was a carer at the care home.

Citing sources, the newspaper said the alleged victim “has been left devastated by the horrific ordeal”.

A manager at the care home said: “We deeply regret this alleged incident, we’re doing everything we can to co-operate with investigators and the police.

“All our focus is on supporting the resident and her relatives at this point, as well as other staff, who are deeply upset about the whole thing.”

A police spokesman said: “It was reported by staff at the care home, who called police as soon as they were made aware of the allegation.”
