A HARARE engineer is facing rape charges after allegedly forcing himself on an old flame who had ditched him after discovering he was married.

John Manuel, 46, appeared in court on Friday and was remanded to august 26 on US$100 bail.

The court heard that early this month, Manuel offered his ex-lover transport home after a late night church service.

Prosecutors said some one hundred metres from the ex-girlfriend’s home, Manuel suddenly stopped the car on a side road and locked the doors before asking her for sex.

However when the girlfriend refused, Manuel pounced, tearing her pants off her while holding her hands so that she could not open the vehicle’s doors.

He allegedly proceeded to rape her once without using protection.

After the attack, Manuel then opened the car doors and the woman jumped out of the vehicle screaming.

Fearing the screams might attract attention Manuel sped off.

Prosecutors said the woman then secured a lift into the city centre where she reported the attack at the Harare Police Station.
