A HARARE man told an orphaned niece left in his care that there was nothing for free in the world and proceeded to rape her on 20 separate occasions.
Prosecutor, Joyce Sithole told a city magistrate’s court on Friday that 32-year-old Evidence Muzuva abused the girl after she was left in his care following the death of her parents.
The court heard that Muzuva told the girl she would not have his board for free and raped her on several occasions between June and July this year.
He allegedly told her that there was no one else to look after her and that, if she refused, there would be nowhere else to live.
Sithole said during one of the attacks Muzuva slipped into the girl’s bedroom while she was asleep.
He allegedly pulled up a t-shirt she was wearing and started caressing her before pushing her knickers aside and raping her.
The prosecutor said the girl did not scream or raise alarm because she was afraid she would be chased away from home.
The attacks continued on 20 separate occasions and, unable to bear the abuse any longer, the girl told her elder sister who reported the matter to the police.
Muzuva was remanded in custody to August 20.
