VICE President John Nkomo’s family has dismissed as untrue widespread rumours he has died in a South African Hospital.
The rumour mill hit fever pitch on Friday with claims the ailing Vice President had succumbed to a long-standing cancer-related illness.
But his son, Jabulani, and senior government officials dismissed the rumours.
“It’s not true at all. These are the usual rumours that are thrown around by our detractors who do not seem to wish us well,” Jabulani told Newsday.
Information minister, Webster Shamu also poured cold water on the speculation.
“It’s not true at all. These are the usual rumours that are thrown around by our detractors who do not seem to wish us well,” he said.
Nkomo was reportedly flown to South Africa after his condition deteriorated following General Mujuru’s funeral.
Local media reports claimed the Vice President was visibly unwell during Mujuru’s funeral at the National Heroes Acre and had to walk with the help of a walking stick, supported by two aides.
Meanwhile, Lands and Rural Resettlement Ministe,r Hebert Murerwa is also reported to be in South African receiving treatment for cancer of the colon.
