PROSECUTORS have dubbed a Chirumanzu man “Zimbabwe’s dumbest thief” after he was allegedly found “modeling” clothes he had just nicked.

Tasara Mukozho, 30, of Magogodya Village under Headman Govere, broke into a neighbour’s house and filled up a bag with clothes.

But the house owner walked in on him after he let his guard down and began trying some of the clothes on while checking himself in the mirror, the Mvuma Magistrates’ Court heard.

Mukozho, a popular vegetable vendor in Chirumanzu, denies two charges of unlawful entry and theft.

Magistrate Thembinkosi Msipa heard how Mukozho broke into Egness Zvoushe’s house while she was away.

“In one of the bedrooms, Mukozho took some clothes and packed them into a plastic bag. He went on to try a pair of trousers and shoes that he found in another room,” said Bernard Nyoni, prosecuting.

“But as luck would have it, one of the family members Naison Pasika surprised Mukozho and found him modelling and admiring himself in the mirror as he tried to assure himself that the clothes fitted well.”

Mukozho, the court heard, bolted from the house still wearing the stolen shoes and pair of trousers. He left his own shoes and a jacket behind in his haste to flee the crime scene.

But Pasika, the court heard, knew Mukozho very well and called in the police.

Detectives recovered the stolen shoes and pair of trousers after raiding Mukozho’s home.

Nyoni said: “He must be Zimbabwe’s dumbest thief.”

Mukozho was remanded out of custody to September 12 for the continuation of his trial.
