A NIGHTCLUB owner and two bouncers beat a man to death after he bought beer with a fake US$50 note, a court heard.

Sam Chihovo, a pilot with the Air Force of Zimbabwe, was enraged after Norbert Tsakatsa used the dodgy note to buy alcohol from his Toyo Nightclub in Gweru last Saturday, September 10.

Tsakatsa was dragged to an office inside the nightclub and severely assaulted, finally losing consciousness, the Gweru Magistrates’ Court heard.

Chihovo and bouncers Julius Hwere, 28, and Ronald Mhazha, 32, it is alleged, tried to revive Tsakatsa by pouring water over his head. When this failed, they dragged him outside the nightclub and left him to die, said Andrew Marimo, prosecuting.

Tsakatsa’s body was discovered by passers-by the following morning and police were called.

Chihovo, Hwere and Mhazha were not asked to plead to a charge of murder when they briefly appeared before Gweru magistrate Jesline Mashiri on Tuesday.

They were granted US$50 bail each with stringent conditions. They must not move addresses and they may not go beyond a 40km radius of Gweru without approval by a court.
