ZIMBABWE’S top Anglican bishop says the head of the worldwide Anglican church is set to arrive Sunday as "a show of solidarity."
The visit comes amid a bitter dispute led by breakaway bishop Albert Kunonga that has split the church.
Bishop Chad Gandiya, leader of the mainstream Anglican group, said Friday the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, is visiting Harare to "share our pain."
The Anglican Church in Zimbabwe has been divided since Kunonga was excommunicated for inciting violence in sermons supporting President Robert Mugabe.
Kunonga has taken over the main cathedral, schools and the church's bank accounts. He insists the Anglican Church moved against him over his stance against homosexuals.
It was still unclear on Friday if Williams would meet Mugabe after a request for a meeting was sent in advance. If granted an audience, Williams is expected to ask Mugabe to help solve the Anglican dispute
Williams will also visit Malawi and Zambia.
