N armed robber jailed for 12 years managed to force his way back into the dock and ripped into President Robert Mugabe and court officials before being taken away to begin his sentence.

According to the state-run Herald newspaper, Daniel Mutema (26) told a police constable she was a prostitute and threatened to kill a prosecutor before he was eventually led away.

Mutema could now face further prosecution for insulting Mugabe although the newspaper would not disclose what he said of the Zanu PF leader.

The incident occurred soon after Harare regional magistrate William Bhila sentenced Mutema and two accomplices, Brian Juma (21) and Tatenda Nyanhemwa (21) to an effective 12 years behind bars for armed robbery.

While being led away to the holding cells at the Harare magistrate’s courts, Mutema broke free and stormed back into the dock where he let rip with a tirade aimed at President Mugabe and court officials.

He reportedly threatened the prosecutor with death, warning: "Iwewe mupfanha prosecutor ndoda kukuuraya kana ndabuda mujeri. VaTsvangirai ndivo vanenge vavekutonga next year vobva vandibuditsa. Mese muchapera (I am going to kill you once I am released from prison by (MDC-T leader, Morgan) Tsvangirai who is going to be the president next year).”

A court orderly tried to stop him but was told off with Mutema accusing him of being used by President Mugabe and Zanu PF.

He then insulted the veteran Zimbabwean leader before prison officers managed to lead him away following a struggle that lasted several minutes.

Mutema and his accomplices were arrested for robbing a taxi driver of more than $1,500 at gun-point.

The court heard that at around 9pm on December 16, last year, the trio approached taxi driver Fredrick Madombiro in Karoi and hired him to Rydings School.

Madombiro, who was in the company of three women, agreed one of Mutema’s accomplices was known by two of the women.

However, as they were approached the school's main gate, Mutema ordered to stop claiming they had drop off one of his friends.

The gang then assaulted Madombiro and threatened to shoot him if he resisted. The three women escaped.

They then tied his hands with a string and took away two mobile phones and US$1,520 in cash.
