A ZIMBABWEAN man who caused a stink in an English town by repeatedly peeing and pooping in public, often after heavy drinking, has been banned from answering nature’s call in any public place in England and Wales other than a toilet.

Kimpton Japajapa, 41, was sentenced to three months in prison for charges of failing to surrender, theft, indecent exposure and being drunk and disorderly.

He was issued with a five-year Criminal Anti-Social Behaviour Order (CRASBO) at the Northampton Magistrates Court and warned that he faces a lengthy spell in jail if he breaks the order.

Under the terms of the CRASBO, Japajapa is banned from “urinating or defecating in any public place in England and Wales, other than in a urinal or toilet,” and “being under the influence of alcohol whilst behaving in a manner which causes or is likely cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more persons not of the same household.”

Japajapa, who lived in a shelter run by the charity, CAN, was charged on November 9 this month after the Northampton Borough Council filed a police complaint.

He was evicted from the shelter and moved to the council-run Resettlement Centre in the city, before again being thrown out for his behaviour “which included urinating and defecating both in the properties and outside”.

During a hearing on November 10, Northampton Magistrates heard 12 statements from police officers, Greyfriars Bus Station staff, member of the public and employees from three homeless charities.

Councillor David Mackintosh, Northampton Borough Council's portfolio holder for community safety said: "The Council will continue to work with our partners to bring cases like this to court. It is completely unacceptable for anyone to act in this manner, the vast majority of people have a lot of pride in our town and respect for others.

“We are not prepared to stand back and see their lives blighted by this kind of behaviour."
