A LOBBY group to help address the many challenges facing Zimbabweans in the UK including immigration and the lack of business opportunities is set to be launched over the weekend.

Organisers said Zim Unite is a non-partisan cross community alliance of Zimbabweans living in the UK and will seek to engage UK authorities on the many issues affecting Zimbabweans.

“Our community has many challenges. We have to build enough power by coming together, get recognition from both the business sector and government to deal with these issues,” the organisers said in a statement.

“We came into this country as highly skilled migrants only to find ourselves stuck in care work and cleaning jobs.

“We struggled to get our children through Universities and most are joining us in the same menial jobs. This circle of constriction will not be broken unless we start acting differently.”

The lunch will be held at St.Selpuchre Church, 10 Giltspur Street, Londonon Saturday, one of the organisers, Floyd Mutambirwa said.

Mutambirwa added that Zim Unite would be modelled along to Citizens UK which has in the past campaigned for Zimbabwens to be allowed to work while waiting for regularisation of the status in the country.

“Zim Unite is being built using the CitizensUK successful model,” the organisers said.

“Using this model of community organising ,we will be able to deal with and change many issues which face us in this country- be it immigration, youth employment, services at our embassy and also support for business opportunities for Zimbabweans.”
