INFORMATION Technology Minister and MDC-T organising secretary Nelson Chamisa has revealed the loss of an iPad with “sensitive” information.
Chamisa was attending a church convention in Harare over the weekend when the tablet computer mysteriously vanished.
The minister operates a paperless office policy, and he fears the loss of the Apple gizmo could lead to permanently-lost records and data falling into criminal hands.
Devout Christian Chamisa said in an interview on Thursday: “We have most of the data backed up but not all, which is a slight concern.
“More worryingly, however, I’m concerned that this data – which includes sensitive – could be exploited by criminals. Without going into much detail, I can assure you that this is a national security issue.”
Chamisa, named Minister of the Year this week by the privately-owned Daily News newspaper, said he had informed the police and state intelligence of the missing iPad.
Chamisa’s ministry is recognised as a vital cog in Zimbabwe’s push to join the digital age, with work near completion to connect the whole of the country to an undersea high speed broadband cable through Mozambique and South Africa.
