ZVISHAVANE police say they are hunting a NUDE burglar whose victims claim has a supernatural ability to enter LOCKED houses.
Police say many of those who have fallen victim to the cheeky thief – who targets mobile phones and cash – have only had a sight of his BACKSIDE as he exits through windows.
Superintendent Robert Mugazambi, the deputy in command of Zvishavane and Mberengwa Police, said: “The suspect is said to be hitting at his victims while naked with all his body covered in some white powder.
“What is even more puzzling is that there are no break-ins at all the houses that have been targeted so far. The victims only notice the suspect when he is leaving with his loot.
“Chasing after the suspect has not helped either as he can outrun everyone.”
Police say they suspect the burglar is using some supernatural or magical power which has made him something of a cause célèbre in the small asbestos mining town.
Said Superintendent Mugazambi: “The thief is suspected to be using some juju to steal from his victims because of the mysterious circumstances surrounding the whole saga.”
The robber had so far hit several houses in the Maglas and Kandodo neighbourhoods.
Last Friday, the nude thief sneaked into AA45 in Maglas and stole US$250 in cash and a mobile phone.
On that same night, he also stole three mobile phones at SQ20 in the same suburb.
On Saturday, investigators say he struck at 35 Cottage Kandodo and got away with two phones.
George Goho, who lost US$250 in the Friday night break-in, said: “All my doors and windows were locked and the money was in my trousers, which I had removed when I was about to retire for bed.
“What still remains a mystery is how he managed to get into my house whose doors were all locked. I only saw him when he was getting out through the window but all the screams and the chase was in vain as he outran us.”
