Leaked Tsvangirai letter to Mugabe

MORGAN Tsvangirai winces as he scratches the top of his right leg, protected by an orthopaedic Cam Walker boot.

These are the first pictures of Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister since New Zimbabwe.com exclusively revealed on January 13 that he had hurt his ankle while playing golf.

Tsvangirai invited reporters for a joint press conference with Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara at his Strathaven home in Harare on Wednesday.

The two men had earlier held talks with President Robert Mugabe, during which they both pressed him for a speedy resolution of so called “toxic issues” before the country holds elections.

Tsvangirai is believed to have undergone surgery in South Africa after suffering what his spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka said was a twisted ankle.

The Prime Minister missed a cabinet meeting on Tuesday last week after complaining of “pain in his leg”, according to reports.

The 60-year-old walked around with the aid of a crutch and wore Puma slippers on his left foot, and the protective boot on his other leg.

Aides say his recovery has been slower than expected.
