A ZIMBABWEAN man has been found hanged in a park in Rotherham, England.
Bigboy Moyo, 45, was found by police officers hanging from a tree early Monday next to the Ferham Park.
A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police told New Zimbabwe.com on Thursday: “A post mortem was conducted today and an inquest will open early next week.
“Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with his death.”
Moyo, originally from Plumtree, Matabeleland South, phoned a friend and his girlfriend moments before he hanged himself, it has been claimed.
A friend said: “He had a domestic row with his girlfriend and then told her he was going off to hang himself. She basically told him that people who want to kill themselves don’t announce.
“But after he left, he called her again and told her he was now in the tree and was going to hang himself. He also called his friend and former roommate in Leeds to say his goodbyes.
“Police were advised and rushed to the park to find him already dead.”
Another friend said Moyo, a devoted member of the Zion Church of Christ, had grown despondent with life in the UK.
“He didn’t have a settled immigration status and that coupled with other troubles in his relationship appears to have formed a perfect storm from which he saw no way out,” said the friend, who declined to be named.
Moyo’s church is organising an overnight vigil in his memory on Saturday night. They also plan to raise money to send his body to Zimbabwe.
