CONTROVERSIAL preacher Emmanuel Makandiwa has called on his followers to pray for the DEATH of their enemies, and predicts in a “prophesy” the “imminent death of someone who has deprived people of freedom”, a newspaper reported.

Up to 100,000 people will attend the United Family International Church’s ‘Judgement Night’ convention at the National Sports Stadium on Friday night.

And speaking during a Sunday service at the City Sports Centre in Harare, Makandiwa, 35, declared: “Judgment Night has already created its atmosphere and our enemies are ready to die. We can’t reverse it, unless they repent before the night. They are dying.

“Somebody has to die on that Friday so that you will be set free. Some people may blame the church, but God is ready to make changes. An angel of death shall be released.”

The NewsDay newspaper reports that Makandiwa also predicted that “after Judgement Night lots of things are going to happen in Zimbabwe”, on top of claiming that an unnamed individual who has “deprived people of freedom” will die imminently.

It has been suggested that he may have been referring to President Robert Mugabe, but Makandiwa’s aides deny this. He has previously voiced support for the 88-year-old leader and was one of half a dozen clerics who signed an “anti-sanctions petition” along with Mugabe last year, demanding the lifting of the embargo imposed by the European Union and the United States.

“Because of our environment, I will not give much detail, but as prophets, we choose what to say and what not to say. For now, all I can say is pray for Zimbabwe,” Makandiwa told his congregation.

Now heading one of Zimbabwe’s fastest growing churches, Makandiwa also claimed a sinister plot against his church – but he only went as far as listing initials of the organisations he says are behind the scheme.

“I see a group of professionals in Zimbabwe spearheading attacks against the ministry. I will not give you their names, but these are going to come from sectors with these initials: the D and the M and the J,” Makandiwa said.

Makandiwa was a pastor in the Apostolic Faith Mission church before he quit in 2008 to start his own. Barely four years later, his services attract thousands every weekend – many fascinated by the charismatic preacher’s promises of healing, improving their luck and boosting their financial fortunes.

"People are getting healed and delivered from diverse evil spirits, sickness and diseases," his website says.

Referred to by his congregation as “Prophet Makandiwa”, his church’s website adds that he has “given numerous, true and accurate prophecies into the lives of many individuals proving that he is indeed a true prophet send by God to the nations.”

“The Man of God has received and continues to receive great revelations from God combined with the unusual ability to rightly divide and teach the word of God with such accuracy and precision worthy of an international minister for the kingdom of God who is and will be noted among the Great Man of God in the world in this era,” the website adds.
