A WOMAN has told how she was woken up by the “Holy Spirit” – then found two naked women in her home.

Eneresi Mufunga, 55, woke up in the small mining community of Shackleton, Chinhoyi, at 4AM on Monday after “a voice” told her that “something was amiss”.

The devout Christian, who keeps “holy water”, said she began sprinkling her house with the liquid and noticed the naked frame of a woman crawling out of the door of her bedroom on all fours. The woman later stood up and "appeared tongue-tied”.

Mufunga said she then heard screams metres away, coming from a grass and pole bathroom known locally as “chinjihouse”. She investigated and found a second woman, also stark naked.

Police in the mining town say Rosemary Kamanga, 48, and Esnath Maodza, 56, are due in court this week after they both admitted practising witchcraft. The two women also face charges of indecent exposure.

Kamanga and Maodza told investigators they had fallen off a winnowing basket (rusero) while returning from the neighbouring community of Alaska.

“They confessed to being witches and indicated they were coming from Alaska in a rusero, and decided to get some human flesh at Mufunga’s house,” said Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara, spokesman for Mashonaland West police.

The discovery of the women sparked frenzied scenes as neighbours rushed to Mufunga’s home, some threatening to kill the two women who were still in a state of undress.

Witnesses said the two women’s husbands arrived on the scene and whisked them to safety.
“Their husbands confirmed having missed their wives early on Monday,” Inspector Mabgweazara said.

The women were later arrested and taken to Murereka Police Post, then transferred to Chinhoyi Central Police Station where they have attracted dozens of curious locals.
