MDC leader Welshman Ncube’s 19-year-old son was killed in a car crash in Harare early Saturday, officials said.

Ntabiso Ncube, who was visiting his father, was a law student at Rhodes University in South Africa.

His body was recovered behind the wheel of a Nissan double cab vehicle around 6AM on Coronation Street, but he is thought to have died hours earlier.

A family spokesman said Ntabiso was driving home when his vehicle appears to have smashed into a perimeter wall of a house.

The property’s owners reported hearing a loud bang around 2AM but did not go out to investigate. When they woke up around 6AM, they noticed a car lodged in the wall and called the police.

The MDC said it joined Ncube’s family in mourning “the sad loss of a brilliant son of the land”.

It added: “The nation has been robbed of one of the brilliant lawyers in the making.”

Mourners were gathering at the Industry and Commerce Minister’s Greendale home on Leander Road in Harare.
