A TEACHER has been jailed for nine months after admitting a sexual relationship with his 14-year-old pupil.

Richmore Muntanga, 22, was teaching the Grade 6 class at St John’s Primary School in Dete, Matabeleland North, when he proposed love to the girl in January this year.

Between April 1 and June 30, the lovers were intimate twice, the Hwange Magistrates’ Court heard on Friday.

Magistrate Lindiwe Maphosa jailed him for 12 months, but suspended three months of the sentence conditionally.

Prosecuting, Sifelumusa Fuzane said on January 15 this year, Muntanga entered into an appropriate consenting relationship with the teenager.

The affair only came to light in June when the girl visited her aunt and Muntanga turned up and stayed late into the night.

During the night, the girl accompanied him to his home and spent the night there, only returning in the morning.

The aunt informed the girl’s parents about the affair and they called in the police.
