A ZIMBABWEAN man killed his gay lover and robbed him of several electronic gadgets, leaving his body to decompose in bed, a Namibian court has heard.

Brighton Maposa, 25, appeared before a Namibian magistrate Thursday charged with the September 19 murder of 27-year-old Jeffery Thaniseb, and theft.

Magistrate Cosmos Endjala remanded Maposa in custody and postponed the matter to March next year to allow for more police investigations.

The accused, who initially had no legal representation, told the court that he now has secured a lawyer.

The prosecution alleges that Maposa turned against his lover and strangled him to death with a neck tie.

He then stashed his body in bed and left it to rot.

He went on to steal Thaniseb’s possessions, including a Sony video camera, a Netman, a memory card, cell phone, laptop and a DVD home theatre system.

Police have not yet ascertained the value of the stolen property.

Thaniseb’s badly decomposed body was found at his Hwang Ho Street, Katutura, residence after his landlord called police to report a foul smell coming from the deceased’s room.

Thaniseb worked as a waiter at a local eatery in Windhoek.

A manhunt led to Maposa’s arrested on September 22 after police intercepted him driving a vehicle belonging to his late partner.

He made his first court appearance on September 24.
