POLICE in Gokwe have launched a massive hunt for a young man who allegedly murdered his grandma with a machete following a heated row over a handful of peanuts.
Gonese Kaukwe, 73, was killed by her grandson Knowledge Munsaka, 20, on December 9 after she reproached him for helping himself to nuts that she was preparing.
The incident happened in Maronga village.
Police spokesman Inspector Leornard Chabata says on the fateful day, Kaukwe was shelling groundnuts at her homestead when her grandson came and scooped a handful.
The grandma was not amused; she scolded Munsaka for being disrespectful.
Enraged by the harangue, police say the young man grabbed a machete and struck his grandmother on the head.
The strike inflicted a gush that triggered profuse bleeding, resulting in Kaukwe’s death.
A witness to the gruesome attack alerted other villagers who rushed in, but could not save the grandma’s life.
Munsaka fled soon after the incident, setting off a massive police search.
