Baboon hunter appears in court By Lindie
Whiz Mlindeli Mhlauzo, 21, will return to court next Monday after he was released on Z$700 bail by Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa on Tuesday. Mdlauzo, from the Inyathi area in Matabeleland North, is charged under a section of the Parks and Wildlife Act which prohibits “hunting an animal on any land without a permit”. Lovemore Chifamba, prosecuting, said on August 27 this year, just before noon, wildlife protection officer Fanson Nkiwane was on patrol when he heard barking dogs. He went over to check where the noise was coming from. When he got closer to the scene, he saw dogs mauling a baboon while Mdhlauzo watched. When confronted by Nkiwane, Mdhlauzo said he was hunting. Nkiwane arrested him and handed him over to the police. Prosecutors have
valued the baboon at Z$250. |
