HIGHLANDERS legend Willard Khumalo is set to return to the club as a technical advisor after relegated Hwange filled the vacant coaching post that he had been linked with.

Khumalo, who left Mwana Africa last season, was heavily tipped for the Hwange job until Nation Dube’s appointment.

Club sources said this week Highlanders had approached the former Warriors midfielder to join Methembe Ndlovu’s coaching staff as a technical advisor.

A club source said: “He has been talking to the club and an agreement appears to have been reached. The club is just waiting for approval from the Board of Directors.”

Khumalo acknowledged that he had been approached by a number of clubs and hinted that an announcement was imminent.

“I have been approached by a number of clubs and perhaps there could be something in the New Year, maybe next week. I cannot tell you which clubs,” he said.

Highlanders chairman Ernst Sibanda said a press conference will be called this week to unveil technical teams for all their age groups and the senior team.

Ndlovu is still keen to remain as head coach and is likely to be confirmed, although one of his assistants, Rueben Tsengwa, could be replaced by legendary former Highlanders goalkeeper, Peter Nkomo. Nkomo is currently the goalkeepers’ coach.

Ndlovu won the league title in his maiden season in charge of Bosso two years ago when he had some of the best players in the league, among them Master Masiku, who left for Swaziland, Tapuwa Kapini, who moved to South Africa’s Platinum Stars and Honour Gombami and Vusa Nyoni who are now based in Belgium.

But Highlanders struggled to match that success last season as bitter rivals Dynamos won a league and cup double.
