Dynamos clinch league and cup double

DYNAMOS skipper Justice Majabvi is ready to walk out of the club after a tumultuous few months and blazing rows over winning bonuses.

Majabvi, who captained the club to a league and CBZ Cup double last season, is undergoing trials with South African Premier League club, Blomfontein Celtic.

Majabvi returned to Dynamos for training last Monday, but angry club bosses claim only to keep himself fit for the trials.

Majabvi has stalled on signing a new contract at Dynamos in a dispute over his wages.

Club officials say he left for South Africa without informing them.

Dynamos manager Nyika Chifamba said the club was disappointed with Majabvi’s conduct.

He said: “The player trained at the beginning of last week and left for South Africa on Wednesday. He has not communicated with us on his intentions, as we needed him for the Champions League. His manager has also not been in touch with us.

“Majabvi had a two year deal which expired in December and we had talks to renew the deal, so when he came to training we thought we were close to a breakthrough, only to realise he needed to be fit to travel for his trials.”

If he makes the grade in South Africa, the former Lancashire Steel captain would still need to be cleared by Dynamos to enable him to get an International Clearance Certificate from ZIFA.

He has a few days to prove his worth as the South African mid-season transfer window closes on January 31 and that country’s football association has said there will be no extensions.

Majabvi’s manager Gibson Mahachi was quoted in weekend reports confirming that the player had left for a two week trial and would return to Dynamos if he fails to make the grade.

He also dismissed reports of a sour relationship between the player and the club.

Dynamos kick off their campaign in the Champions League against Royal Leopards of Swaziland in Mbabane on February 17, with the return leg set for March 2 in Harare.

The champions though have a stadium issue on their hands -- Rufaro is being renovated to install an artificial turf under the FIFA programme -- Win in Africa with Africa.

They cannot move to Gwanzura, for it barely meets CAF standards, leaving Barbourfields Stadium as the only possible venue.

In fact, the problem of match venues will be tested as early as February 3 when Dynamos play Highlanders in the Nestle Zimbabwe Charity Shield. They can use Gwanzura for that match, but for the CAF game, they have no choice.

Acting ZIFA chairman Gladmore Muzambi said Gwanzura was out of question.

“That venue will never be put into consideration. It barely meets the standards, there is no proper VIP, dressing rooms and a even a press centre, which is a
requirement by both FIFA and CAF for international matches.

“Barbourfields and Rufaro meet those standards, but this one in Harare is being renovated and with the rains, we are to sure when it will be finished and ready for use.”
