| Kiglon surrender lead to Chapungu By
Nkanyiso Moyo KIGLON’S early season invincibility blew up in smoke on Wednesday when they succumbed to their first league defeat of the season at the hands of Motor Action, and in the process surrendered the leadership of the CBZ Premiership to a rampant Chapungu, who crushed newly promoted Underhill by half a dozen goals on Wednesday. Kiglon had been unbeaten going into Wednesday’s match with four wins and two draws. But a 2-0 rout at the hands of Motor Action saw them slide to third behind new leaders Chapungu and Motor Action who eased into second spot. A tactical second half substitution by Motor Action manager Jostein Mathuthu saw the introduction of Simba Zimora and Tinashe Chipunza who both went on to grab the two priceless goals. Zimora came on four minutes after the hour for Edmore Mufema, and within 10 minutes he had thrust the Mighty Bulls into the lead when he finished off a delivery from the left by Clement Matawu. The Warriors midfielder was again a thorn in the flesh for Kiglon creating the hosts’ second goal when he made a spirited run on the right flank and then squared the ball for Simba Gate, who in turn back-heeled to Chipunza for an easy finish six minutes from time. In Chapungu’s monstering of Underhill, Chapungu’s Allan Chimuka scored a brace in the 19th and 74th minute with Pascal Shonhayi scoring in the 22nd minute, Tererai Zinyowera in the 31st minute, Phillip Marufu in the 88th minute and Tapfumaneyi Samkange putting the final nail in the visitors’ coffin on the stroke of fulltime. The result became the highest scoring winning margin of the season. But Njube Sundowns’ 4-3 win over CAPS FC, also on Wednesday, is the highest goal rush from a single match so far into the 2008 season. Njube’s Evans Chikwayikwayi struck the first hat-trick of the season. CAPS FC shot into the lead 12 minutes in when captain More Moyo headed past Sundowns goalkeeper Maurani Phiri. Former Highlanders striker Thabani Moyo draws Njube level. Passmore Bernard scored CAPS FC’s second goal after connecting a good delivery from More Moyo. But the see-saw battle continued with Chikwayikwayi taking over the show for Sundowns. The 2007 Soccer Star finalist brought Sundowns level again in the 38th minute after taking advantage of a defensive lapse by the CAPS FC rearguard. Ten minutes after the breather, Chikwayikwayi was back to trouble CAPS FC again grabbing his second and Sundowns’ third. More Moyo brought CAPS FC level when he made it 3-3 in the 64th minute, again with a header, before Chikwayikwayi settled matters, meeting a James Phiri cross in the 78th minute. Lengthens had their regular scorer Richard Mteki to thank for helping them salvage a point in a 1-1 CBZ draw against Shooting Stars. Moses Chunga’s team, who should have felt relieved at the end of the match, trailed to a 50th minute Milton Ncube strike before Mteki’s strike CBZ
