MONOMOTAPA and Dynamos set up a tantalising season photo finish when they both drew their league matches against Underhill and CAPS United on Wednesday respectively, leaving football fans still none the wiser as to the destination of the 2008 CBZ Premier Soccer League title.

A 0-0 draw at home to Underhill benefited Monomotapa the most as they maintained their six-point lead at the top with just three matches to play before the end of the season.

Dynamos, meanwhile, needed to beat United to gain some ground on their rivals before next Wednesday’s meeting with Monomotapa which could now decide the title race.

Monomotapa need just one more win and a draw to clinch the title, although a win over Dynamos will be enough.

Having taken the lead through Norman Maroto on 12 minutes, Dynamos went to sleep and United equalised on 53 minutes and held out for a 1-1 draw.

Maroto’s goal was a gift. United’s goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda kicked the ball straight at the Dynamos striker as he attempted to clear. With Sibanda out of position, the ball bounced off Maroto and rolled into an unguarded net.

United regrouped and were level when referee Alfred Zindove awarded a spot kick for handball against Dynamos defender Thomas Sweswe.

Monomotapa now have 58 points from 27 games, to Dynamos’ 52 points. Goal difference, which might come into play should Monomotapa lose two of their remaining matches, still favours Mapeza’s team (16:13).
